Seaver Carries Mets to Game 4 Victory- Series Tied
By Mike Silva ~ October 24th, 2011. Filed under: 1973 Mets vs. 2009 Yankees.
Just 24 hours ago it appeared the ’09 Yankees were well on their well to finishing the ’73 Mets off quickly. The Mets have battled back and thanks to their ace now have tied the Sim Series at two-apiece.
Tom Seaver pitched a complete game, allowing 1 earned run and striking out 12 in the Mets 4-1 victory. It wasn’t vintage Seaver as he struggled with his command on 3-days rest, but Yogi Berra‘s gamble paid off as he brought his ace back early to face CC Sabathia due to a depleted bullpen from the Game 3 marathon.
The Yanks jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 3rd thanks to a bloop single by Sabathia on a ball misplayed by Rusty Staub in right. Le Grand Orange would return the favor an inning later with an opposite field home run into the Shea bleachers to tie the game at one.
The Mets scored 3 big runs in the fifth, highlighted by Seaver’s 2-run single that made it 4-1.
That was all Tom Terrific would need as he struck out 5 of the last 6 batters of the ballgame.
Game 5 is tonight and A.J. Burnett will return to face Jerry Koosman. Both pitchers are coming back on short rest. Burnett was erratic in Game 2, walking 6 in 5.2 innings, but the Mets would leave 14 men on base in a 2-1 defeat.

This is interesting. Who are you guys starting for the Mets in Game 6? Does Yogi get a second chance to start Stone?

Sounds plausible.
