Former Yankee Gets Victory as Ducks on Brink of Elimination

It’s been a special season to date for the Long Island Ducks, but if they don’t win the next two games on the road against York they will go home without completing their goal of winning the Atlantic League Championship.
The York Revolution defeated the Ducks 9-6 to take a 2-1 lead in the Championship Series. The Revolution jumped out to an early lead for the second night as they were ahead 5-0 after four innings. Long Island put together a tremendous rally in the fifth, scoring five runs to tie it and knock York starter Jino Gonzalez out of the game. Matt Esquivel’s two-run homer to left, a RBI infield single by Javier Colina, and a two-run double to left from John Rodriguez accounted for the scoring.
The bullpen let the Ducks down as three relievers gave up a combined four runs. Former Yankee Matt DeSalvo pitched three scoreless innings for York to earn the victory.
Game Four is Saturday night. Game time is slated for 6:30 PM from Sovereign Bank Stadium. Chris McCoy takes the mound for Long Island against York’s Corey Thurman.
