Watch: Howard Johnson’s At-Bat In Today’s Rockland Boulders Game

By Mike Silva ~ September 5th, 2011. Filed under: Independent Baseball, New York Mets.

I spent the day at Provident Bank Ballpark aka America’s Best New Ballpark, with Howard Megdal of the Journal News watching the Rockland Boulders of the independent Can-Am League. I know some people questioned the “best ballpark” slogan, but it was by far the nicest minor league park I have seen to date. It is modern, picturesque, and has charm with some unique attributes. I will post some pictures tomorrow to give you a feel. The season ended today, but if you aren’t too far away I highly recommend you get out to the Rockland in 2012.

In case you didn’t hear, former Mets 3B Howard Johnson played for the Boulders the last two games. It was a great story since his son Glen is also is a member of the Boulders.

HoJo walked in his lone at-bat today, and was immediately was taken out for a pinch runner. Last night, he went 0-4, but got some good wood on one particular ball. He was the Designated Hitter in both games. There was a left hander on the mound, but HoJo decided to scrap switch-hitting and go lefty vs. the southpaw.

Megdal and I interviewed HoJo briefly after the game, which you can listen to below. I also took video of his lone at-bat today with my iPhone (below).

You can check out the Boulders official site at rocklandboulders.com

Megdal also captured a photo of HoJo walking off the field to a standing ovation over at the Journal News.

You can download the interview here, or you can subscribe to my radio show at iTunes or download the app for the iPhone and Droid. It’s usually available there in a couple of hours.
