By Mike Silva ~ October 24th, 2010. Filed under: Radio Show.
I will be live from the studios of 1240 AM WGBB tonight at 9pm
Jed Weisberger of MILB will join me in the first half hour.
I will get Jed’s take on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre aka the 2010 ALCS, his thoughts on Josh Byrnes/Sandy Alderson showdown for the vacant Mets GM spot, and what direction he would take for both New York clubs this winter.
In the back half of the show you will hear from Jane Leavy who authored the just released book on Mickey Mantle: “The Last Boy: Mickey Mantle and the End of America’s Childhood.”

Hey Mike, heard you and Jed tonight. One thing, I’m not sure the Yanks will be able to target Werth or Crawford this off season. With the contracts they’ll have to give to Derek (20+) Mo (15+) and Lee (20+) and Andy (15+) and given the fact they already have 144.6 mil committed for 2011, that means the payroll is an estimated 215 mil before filling out the bench. I don’t see this one happening unless one of those guys don’t sign. The Yanks aren’t going to explode their budget to 240 mil heading into year where MLB has to negotiate a new deal with the MLBPA.

Steve
From what we are hearing a bat is definately something they will target, but right now no names are being floated. Crawford/Werth seems logical, especially Werth because he is RH.
I wonder if they would trade Granderson and try to offset some of the Werth money that way? They could also save a ton on the bench with guys like Laird, Pena, Nunez, etc.
Lets not forget Montero as well.
Great point.
