Mets Looking at Cristian Guzman

By Mike Silva ~ March 16th, 2010. Filed under: New York Mets, Rumor Mill.

Rich Coutinho of ESPN reported about five minutes ago the Mets may be looking to Cristian Guzman as a replacement for Jose Reyes. This could be a signal that Reyes will be out more towards the eight weeks than the two.

Guzman is a slight improvement offensively over Cora and Tejada, but isn’t much better on the defensive end. Since the offense isn’t a major upgrade I probably would pass.

I am more concerned about the Mets are looking for a replacement for Reyes that appears to be more of the long term variety.

Update 9:40 PM

Matt Cerrone made a great point at Metsblog saying that Guzman could be used a second baseman after Reyes returns. Not sure how that would work out considering he has never played the position in his career, but hopefully the Nationals would be picking up most, if not all, of his $8 million dollar salary.
