Philip Humber Designated For Assignment by the Twins

One of the key pieces of the Johan Santana trade, Philip Humber, has been designated for assignment by the Minnesota Twins. He only made the team out of spring training because he was out of minor league options. He wasn’t very good this season, allowing 6 earned runs in 4 1/3 innings. During these innings, Humber allowed 11 hits and 3 walks for an unsightly WHIP of 3.231.
That being said, would the Mets be interested in picking up Humber and letting him work some things out in Buffalo? He would have to clear through waivers. When a player is placed on waivers in the first 30 days of a season, teams with the worst records the previous season, regardless of league, have priority in making a claim.
So the Mets would have more than 20 teams ahead of them.
Either way the Mets think about Humber, the Santana trade is looking better and better since the Mets did not give up any of their top prospects. Of the four players given up, only Carlos Gomez is on the big league team.
