Jennings Provides Updates on Horne and Wright

Chad Jennings at the SWB Yankees Blog gives his readers an update on two Yankees pitching prospects: Alan Horne and Chase Wright.

It looks like Horne’s rehab is progressing nicely, he is throwing from 120 feet. As for Wright, he has no idea what the future holds. In my opinion, Wright’s stock dropped after giving up four consecutive homers, in Fenway Park, on a Sunday night ESPN game. This is unfortunate, but how the business works.

As Joseph DelGrippo pointed out in his piece about the life on the Yankees 40 man roster when he said

What the Yankee DO NOT do well is allow many of their young players adequate time in the major leagues to prove their worth. In 2007, Chase Wright (23-8, 3.00 ERA over last two years in AA and AAA) has one bad inning against the Red Sox and is banished to AA, Jeff Karstens can’t shake the injury bug and is shipped to Pittsburgh along with Ross Ohlendorf and Dan McCutchen. McCutchen was chosen in the same 2006 draft which produced Joba and Kennedy, has been a dominant pitcher in the minors, but was never given his opportunity in Pinstripes.

Wright was brought up in the most difficult circumstances. Not only were the Yankees floundering, but they were playing poorly against the Red Sox. This may be a stretch, but hopefully he doesn’t go the Doug Drabek or Bob Tewksbury route and pitch well for another team. If I were a small market team starving for pitching, I would grab Chase Wright ASAP. He minor league numbers give make him worthy of another opportunity.
