Teixeira Negotiations Take Interesting Turn
By Mike Silva ~ December 22nd, 2008. Filed under: Mike Silva.
Yankees fans had to take notice of the reports that Angels withdrew their offer to Mark Teixeira. This impacts the Yanks in two ways:
1. They could now sneak in and potential outbid the $160 “hard offer” from Boston.
2. Find themselves in competition for Manny Ramirez with the Teixeira-less Angels.
Either way it looks like the Yankees might have one more free agent move in their arsenal. I believe you will see the Yankees “go hard” after Teixeira or Ramirez in the coming weeks. It’s too tempting, and they very well could use the bat. The Yankees offense is good, but also has some age to it. Either Teixeira or Manny would give A-Rod the protection that currently is lacking.
If you believe Impacto Deportivo, then Manny already is donning pinstripes. This report just doesn’t sound right. Often these Latin papers, in my opinion, are about 50% right with their information.
The news couldn’t be better for the Yanks: A shrinking market for Manny and Teixeira. There might be one more holiday gift under the tree for the fans after all.
