Henry claims Red Sox have pulled out of Teixeira Sweeps

In what is clearly a bargaining ploy, Red Sox owner John Henry claims that the asking price for free-agent 1st baseman Mark Tiexeira is too much for the bean eaters.
Henry said: “We met with Mr. Teixeira and were very much impressed with him. After hearing about his other offers, however, it seems clear that we are not going to be a factor.”
The Red Sox propaganda machine, led by Peter Gammons and the rest of the Boston Mafia at ESPN, is out in full force tonight. The suggestion is that the low-budget, scrappy, underdog Red Sox don’t have the means to compete with those high-rolling Nationals when it comes to signing Tex.
If it does turn out that the Sox are bowing out, thank the Yanks for helping drive up the price. The chances of the Yanks signing Tex remain low. The Angels are still the favorites, with the Nationals and the Orioles also in the running.
