Yankees Odds & Ends

Various reports have surfaced this afternoon regarding further moves by the Yankees. First, George King of the NY Post reports that Kei Igawa is holding up the Mike Cameron deal. It appears that Milwaukee doesn’t want to pay much of the $12 million left on Igawa’s contract. It’s conceivable that Cameron could wind up cosing the Yankees nearly $20 million in 2009. Credit our very own Joseph DelGrippo for reporting this during the winter meetings.
There is also conflicting reports about how much the Yankees are willing to spend. Ken Rosenthal disagrees with King’s assertion that the Yankees will go “hard” after Mark Teixeira or Manny Ramirez. To quote Rosenthal “one general manager says there is a lot of bluffing going on right now to get the Red Sox to go higher”.
Frank Russo reported on Friday that the Yankees are very much in the Derek Lowe negotiations. It remains to be seen how much higher they will raise payroll in 2009. You would think that their reluctance to pay a majority of Igawa’s contract aligns with Rosenthal’s report.
