Yanks Sign Four to Minor League Deal

By Mike Silva ~ December 8th, 2008. Filed under: Yanks Minors.

Chad Jennings at the SWB Blog reports about some signings by the Yankees. Jason Leone, Jose Valdez, Ben Blumenthal, and Carlos Mendoza all signed minor league deals.

Mendoza and Leone seem to have the most potential to help in 2009. As Jennings mentioned, Mendoza nearly got called up when the injury bug hit last season. He can man multiple infield positions, which is something that a team can use throughout the season.

Leone has nice pop and can play both the infield and outfield. He spent some time with Seattle in 2004. Players like this often go unnoticed during the winter, but ironically play big parts in a teams success. Think how many fans were talking about Fernando Tatis last winter. He turned out to be key for the Mets. You never know what jewel you can pick up on a minor league deals.
