Abreu in Flushing?

Anthony McCarron of the Daily News cites a source who claims that Bobby Abreu has garnered interest from the Cubs and Mets. Abreu roaming Citi Field definitely has it benefits.
Yours truly has criticized Bobby Abreu numerous times on our radio program. This is for his penchant of running away from the outfield fence. You can’t argue with him from an offensive standpoint. As a matter of fact, Howard Megdal and I debated whether Abreu is a Hall of Famer back in August.
Logically this moves sounds intriguing, but I think the Mets should pass on Abreu. First, I value defense in Right Field and Abreu doesn’t provide nearly enough. The recent overhead shots of the Citi Field outfield might cause Abreu to start shying away from the wall now. Next, he is left handed and the Mets already have two power hitting lefties in Delgado and Church. Finally, it ensures that the Mets will not enter any negotiations with Orlando Hudson. I rather have Hudson at 2b and give left field to Murphy/Tatis then have Abreu, Beltran, and Church roam the outfield with Luis Castillo at second. That doesn’t even factor the whole leadership questions that Abreu has been knocked for during his career.
The Mets must focus on defense, pitching, and leadership this off season. Bobby Abreu is a nice player, but he doesn’t fall into any of those three categories. I will pass.

Rafael Furcal is the key on offense for the mets… started his career as 2b before being moved to second base… can spell reyes at short and leadoff spot… and would make best 1-2 punch in baseball with reyes at the top of that lineup.

Now that is a joke and a half…Keith Hernandez has no chance of getting in, yet Abreu could based on what?
