It’s Time to Move Past Pedro

Peter Wade at Hotfootblog.com updates us on what Fernando Cuza, Pedro Martinez agent, had to say to SI.com. According to Cuza, Pedro is ready to “leave his injuries and death of his father behind”. He believes the team that signs him will get the “old Pedro again”.

Pedro Martinez has meant the world to the Mets. He symbolizes the turnaround of this franchise out of its doldrums. Part of me wants the Mets to offer him a one year deal with incentives to see if he can help get them back to the playoffs. The other part of me believes that, regardless of what he has left, it’s time to move on.

I am sure most fans are like Peter and would enjoy seeing Pedro give it one more try. I am not in that camp. Pedro, and the Mets, need to move forward. He accomplished what he was brought in to do: bring the Mets back to respectability. Obviously his impact was more emotional and with player recruitment then on the field. Regardless it was money well spent because, without Pedro, you might not have Beltran, Delgado, and Santana here today.

It’s time to say goodbye, thanks for the memories, and move towards the next chapter in Mets baseball.
