Playing for Peanuts DVD
By Mike Silva ~ November 17th, 2008. Filed under: Sports Entertainment.
In May of 2007 I corresponded with John Fitzgerald, the creator of Playing for Peanuts, and asked him to come on my NY Baseball Talk show on 1240 AM WGBB. If you are not familiar with Playing for Peanuts, it’s a story about a minor league independent baseball team called the South Georgia Peanuts. They played in the now defunct South Coast League. In addition to following the trials and tribulations of life in the minor leagues, you get to see former Mets 2b Wally Backman manage this club to a championship. Former Yankees DH Cecil Fielder also makes an appearance.
John has dealt with many challenges throughout the last two years. He chronicled his experience in a four part series on my show. Despite the fact that he didn’t get the support here in the New York market, Comcast Sportsnet picked it up nationally.
