Girardi: Moose Wants to Retire
By Mike Silva ~ November 7th, 2008. Filed under: Mike Silva.
Peter Abraham reports an interesting piece of news from the Joe Torre charity event. Apparently Girardi revealed that Mike Mussina told him he planned to retire at the end of the season. No one has heard from Moose since that conversation.
If Mussina retires he certainly goes out on a high note (20-9, 3.37). His season is even more impressive in the hitter heavy AL East. He certainly shut up Howard and I who both thought he couldn’t sustain success this year.
The interesting part of all this is, even if Mussina wants to continue playing, it appears the Yankees might not even have interest in him in for their 2009 rotation. Furthermore, if he changes his mind, could Mussina be a good fit at the back end of an NL rotation (Mets?)
Just something to think about on a Friday night.
