How Sabermetrics Can Help Save the U.S. Health Care Crisis

Can you imagine a more unlikely collaboration than these three? Billy Beane, John Kerry, and Newt Gingrich wrote an op-ed today in The New York Times on how to “Take American Health Care From Worst to First.”
Lord knows our system could use some help, and this is the most interesting article I’ve read today. Beane contends that some of the very same Objective Analysis that successful ball clubs like the Red Sox and Rays use to build their rosters can also work in the field of health care.

I’m a University of Pennsylvania psychology student doing an honors thesis on baseball clutch performance. I actually read Moneyball and was very intrigued by sabremetrics so I am attempting to validate a measure of objective clutch performance in baseball. I would really appreciate if people would fill out my survey that I am using to ascertain fans’ perspectives on players. Thanks so much!

cool – I just took the survey. U of PENN produced one of the studies that correctly pegged Jeter as a below-average shortstop, which he clearly is.
