Could Joe B Be The Answer to Francesa’s Woes?
By Mike Silva ~ October 14th, 2008. Filed under: Sports Media Commentary.
After weeks of mediocre partners, and excuses by Mike Francesa about his weak performance, we may have seen a turning point with the pairing of Joe Benigno.
I am no fan of Joe B these days. I think the “woe is me, my team never wins” act has gone way over the top. His “perverted old man” act with Evan Roberts and constant use of the word “bro” was more irritating then the Frank TV commercials during the MLB playoffs. With all that said, it may be possible that pairing these two might bring out the best in each other.
Joe seemed more intent on elevating his peformance with Francesa. When I watched them i didn’t see the same “act” that he brings to the mid days and on Daily News Live. He actually tried to make intelligent points about sports. What a concept! Talking sports and providing the listener with analysis.
Francesa seemed to be more relaxed with Benigno. Most of his other pairings were the equivalent of a blind date that you stick with to be polite, but really don’t want to be there. Today proved that Francesa needs someone else to bounce ideas off. It helps when the other person is eccentric, quirky, and opinionated. Sound familiar?
The closest thing to Mad Dog is Joe B. I think this relationship could save Joe B’s diminishing performance and the Mike Francesa show. Will Mark Chernoff listen to his audience and give them what they want? Is it necessary to go through with the Evan Roberts audition? At least we now have a real Mets fan to pair with Mike and his Yankee pinstriped color glasses.
Hopefully the “golden boy” will get his complimentary try out and be sent on his way. Put Joe B on with Francesa and move on. Chernoff will then have the diffficult task of saving his” Joe B-less” 10-1 slot.

I am sure you can find somebody to do 10-1 ..
The most popular and listened to program on WFAN is Mike’s show in the afternoons, hands down. And it’s clear he cannot do it himself, I swear I have listened to him driving home from work on occasions and feel like I was about to fall asleep out of boredom. I listened yesterday to him and Joe B and was impressed and thought they worked with eachother very well, and I’d look into pairing the two.

The show is so much better without the moronic Russo, I don’t see why Francesa needs a partner.
