Keith Olbermann: Late to the Party
By Mike Silva ~ March 9th, 2010. Filed under: Mike Silva.
I will preface this post by saying I am not a huge fan of Keith Olbermann. No, it has nothing to do with politics as we keep this site pretty apolitical, but with his condescending persona. This was in full display today as Olbermann takes on Bill Simmons aka “The Sports Guy” over things said in 145 characters on twitter. I realize Simmons has his own issues, but the high horse Olbermann lives on is so aggravating that I figured what is good for the goose is good for the gander.
Olbermann wrote a piece on his blog “Baseball Nerd” the other day entitled “Andy Pettitte: Hall of Famer?” Innocent enough, right? Wrong, as Olbermann, in true narcissistic form, writes the following in response to that title: “You haven’t considered that question, have you?” Actually Keith, yes it has been discussed all the way back to September on NYBD. The day before Adam the Bull and Jon Heyman discussed it on WFAN as well, so you are third on the list of individuals who have pondered this statement. If you read some of the blogs, especially Baseball Think Factory, you would know the Hall of Fame is a constant discussion. Of course, Olbermann probably thinks his blog has reinvented new media.
I know Olbermann believes he invented sports discussion, but reality states otherwise. Its ok Keith, unlike you, I won’t take you to task publically for your mistake. Let’s just call it even and you can issue a simple apology on your blog.

I’m ambivalent on the issue. On one hand, you have Simmons, who foolishly ranted on a subject which he clearly hadn’t put much thought into… and then compounded his problems by trading in his shovel for a backhoe…
On the other hand, you have Olbermann, whose skill at political teeball is only dwarfed by his massive ego, which he feeds with clinically self-righteous and masturbatory references to his own resume.
The real loser: neurons everywhere.

Olbermann lives in NY right? Not DC. Is Petitte a HOFer has probably popped up in conversations since he was on the Astros. Yankee fans talk about if players are HOFers usually within two months of a rookie being called up.
