Chapman Signs, Mejia Next King Felix?
By Matt Pignataro ~ January 10th, 2010. Filed under: Digest Contributors, New York Mets.
According to multiple reports, Aroldis Chapman has signed with the Reds to a five-year, $30 million deal.
There were reports of Reds being in financial trouble. I’m wondering with the Reds signing Chapman, does that make Bronson Arroyo, Brandon Phillips, or Aaron Harang expendable to say the Mets?
Earlier, we heard reports of the Mets having serious discussions with the Reds regarding Arroyo and possibly two other players.
Mejia Next King Felix?: Alex Geshwind of FantasyBullpen.com provides an analysis on Mets pitching prospect Jenrry Mejia and compares him to Mariners ace Felix Hernandez:
Some say he will end up as a reliever, but I think his long term future is at the front of the Mets rotation as the eventual heir to Johan Santana. He’s only 20, and probably starts 2010 at AA, but he should be in the big leagues at some point during the season. He needs to build up his innings and improve his command, but his stuff is off the charts, and his K/GB profile gives him incredible upside. MLB comparison: Felix Hernandez
Strong opinion by Geshwind to compare Mejia to King Felix. I can see some similarities stuff wise, potential wise, but Hernandez was way more polished at this time in his career, than Mejia is.

Good stuff Matt. I think he means that eventually he can be what King Felix currently is in the big leagues rather then what he was at Mejia’s age.

Why do supposed hardened player scouts say things about a person that has not pitched one inning against a M.L.B. team’s line up ?
That is unless those scouts get a kick back on saying over the top things and getting those players agents better footing in future deals.
