Mets Close on Molina?

By Mike Silva ~ December 7th, 2009. Filed under: Rumor Mill.

As reported on NYBD Radio and by Joe Demayo at Twitter the Mets are meeting with Bengie Molina’s agent tonight. The thought is both sides are motivated to get a deal done. Molina is reported to be seeking a 3 year deal while the Mets prefer one year and an option. Demayo believes that if things progress well Molina could be a Met within 24 hours and no later than the end of the winter meetings. Jon Heyman adds the Mets are looking to offer Molina $6 million for next season.

Deals can fall apart, as we have seen in the past, so the Mets continue to keep an eye on other options. Names such as Rod Barajas and Yorvit Torrealba were floated by Ken Davidoff of Newsday.
