Armageddon: Halladay in Philly
By Mike Silva ~ December 7th, 2009. Filed under: Offseason Speculation.
The word via Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus was that Roy Halladay is firm on his demands to play for a team that trains in Florida. Out of the teams connected with Halladay that leaves the Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, and Phillies. Could the Phils pull off the impossible and acquire the two best available pitchers from last year’s deadline? Could you imagine the “mayday” scenario that would create in Flushing?
The Phillies still have the prospects, although they did trade the middle infield and catching prospect that Toronto desires for Cliff Lee, but names like Michael Taylor, J.A Happ, Kyle Drabek, and Dominic Brown could entice the Jays.
How do you feel if you are a Mets fan and you wake up to this big three?
Roy Halladay
Cliff Lee
Cole Hamels
Another scenario would be the Phillies trading Hamels, who drew the fans ire in 2009, in a Halladay deal. I also can’t see Ruben Amaro Jr. allowing a maybe like Kyle Drabek stop him from having a dynasty in Philly.
No one is talking about the Phillies with respect to Roy Halladay. They already had interest once and, as Howard mentioned on yesterday’s show, the organization knows their window of opportunity is right now. Can’t you see them go for it and virtually lock down the NL East for another three years?
If that’s the case than Omar Minaya better convince Brian Cashman that Chamberlain is worth parting for Halladay.
