Heyman: Yanks Will Bid on Halladay

Via Jon Heyman on Twitter:

yankees decided they will bid on halladay. tor wants some combo of hughes, joba, a-jax and montero. #redsox have best chance, tho

This contradicts the earlier tweet by ESPN’s Buster Olney in the sense that bringing in Halladay wouldn’t reduce payroll since he is owed about $16 million in 2010. Of course, the Yanks could just bring in Halladay and they still could be under $200 million. Olney was only speculating the $185 million dollar price tag.

My preferred combo from a Yankees perspective would be Austin Jackson and Joba Chamberlain, but If I were Toronto I would rather have Hughes/Montero.

If Halladay goes to Boston I believe it very well may shift the balance of power back north especially if they complement that move with signing Matt Holliday or Jason Bay. Imagine a Halladay/Holliday combo in Boston. Not exactly a fun thought for Yankees fan this holiday season (sorry couldn’t resist).

If that Sox did get that combo I’m sure the Yanks would counter somehow. Met fans however, will then go off and strangle themselves.

After the Graderson deal we amy see a deal that includes Hughes, Montero & Melky to Toronto for Halladay. Also, look for the Yanks to make a move to bring back Johnny to play left and Matsui to be everyday DH. 1-9 Best Lineup in baseball with best rotation.

    1- SS-Jeter 1)CC
    2-LF-Damon/Gardner 2)Halladay
    3-1B Texeria 3)Burnett
    4-3B- Rodriguez 4)Pettite
    5-CF- Granderson 5) Gaudin/Joba
    6-DH Matsui
    7-C-Posada
    8-RF- Swisher
    9-2B Cano
