Mets Sign Chris Coste
By Mike Silva ~ November 30th, 2009. Filed under: Offseason Speculation.
First picked up by Joe Demayo on Twitter and confirmed by a North Dakota Newspaper the Mets have signed former Phillies catcher Chris Coste and added him to the 40 man roster.
Not sure how this impacts the catching situation, but if Henry Blanco is signed than perhaps the Coste signing signals the Mets will not be pursuing Bengie Molina, Rod Barajas, or any other free agent catcher.
Coste can play 1B as well so he may be a right handed complement to Daniel Murphy as well. Perhaps this is the Mets way of signing a bench player and killing two birds with one stone. The fact he was added to the 40 man roster tells you they think he can make the team.
If you remember Coste wrote a book about his 13 year journey to the big leagues.
We will see – stay tuned.
