Montero and Hughes/Joba for Halladay?

ive heard halladay-shopping jays like jesus montero of #yanks (plus hughes/joba?) and casey kelly of #redsox (plus buchholz?)
If the Blue Jays asking price for Roy Halladay is Jesus Montero and either Phil Hughes or Joba Chamberlain I think the Yankees need to make this deal.
As was talked about on Wednesday’s show Jesus Montero is a near ready offensive player that still isn’t developed on the defensive side. You can’t allow a possible future Designated Hitter stand in your way of acquiring Roy Halladay and locking down an historic 1-2 tandem in the Bronx. You all known who I would give Toronto out of Hughes/Chamberlain but, since the Yanks would be giving up their top prospect, Toronto should accept which of the two the Yankees are willing to give up. Again, as I said earlier today, the window of opportunity is here and now for the Yankees. You can’t turn down another dynasty to hold on to “maybe” prospects. Remember, you still have Austin Romine, Zach McAllister, and other young pitcher that may be as good, perhaps better, than Hughes, Joba, or Montero.
On the flip side the Red Sox giving up Casey Kelly (position unknown) and Clay Buchholz is something they need to do as well. If Toronto is serious about dealing Halladay within the division (big question mark according to our very own Frank Russo) they may be able to maximize the package playing both sides against each other. I believe the Red Sox would be willing to part with their prospects, but not sure about the Yankees. That is just a hunch based on recent history (see 2009 trading deadline). If Brian Cashman doesn’t think this will be a worse non move than Santana was at a similar point he very mistaken. There is no CC Sabathia to mask passing up on Halladay this time.

If we get a window to sign him longer term (4yrs?) then I agree. However for just one year of Halladay, I think that price is too steep…

I think that goes without saying. The Yankees are also one of the few teams that doesn’t need windows to sign players because they get deals done. That kind of nonsense is for the Mets which they almost screwed up when they acquired (or should I say stole) Santana.

I think the trade would be contingent upon signing him long term, Joba and Jesus for Doc and how about Hughes and AJax for Josh Johnson? A Sabathia/Halladay/Burnett/Johnson/Pettitte rotation would be ridiculous!

I think Johnson is a great young arm, but he did have major surgery. Let’ see more of him before you give up 2 more prospects. Hughes could be every bit the pitcher and cheaper. A-Jax is one of the few positional talents near big league ready in the system. Like your aggressiveness (I am not one to hold on to prospects), but Halladay and Sabathia should be enough pitching for now!

I just haven’t been confident with Joba/Hughes and A-Jax has no power, none but I like Montero’s hitting! Who do you project to be 3-4-5? Also, our outfield is a mess, what do you think we could do without spending a ton of money? Damon/Cameron/Swisher? I wish we could get our hands on a legit right and center fielder!

The Yankees have an opportunity to keep the red sox down by grabbing Halladay, for at least a couple of years and they should do it! Toronto would be foolish to take Buccholz and Kelly over any combination of Joba/Hughes and Jackson/Montero!

This is lunacy, where do I begin.
I guess I will start with the initial post. No the Yankees should not trade both Hughes/Joba and Montero for Halladay. That is like saying you think One of Hughes and Joba plus Montero is worth about $7M. (I am assuming that Halladay is a $23M a year pitcher and he makes $16M)
Second, if you are going to give a big package for either Johnson or Halladay, Johnson is the better bet. Much younger (26 vs 33 and much cheaper- 2 more arbitraion years and he is currenly looking fora 38/4 contract. I wouldn’t make the trade for either of them. But Johnson is worth more. I would do a Jackson/Hughes and A- Jax for him, but Montero is worth a lot more han A Jax. The major reason I wouldn’t make this trade is that here are 4 premium pitchers hiting the FA market next year – Halladay, Beckett, Webb, and Lee. Some of them will hit free agency.
The Yankees have a legimate RF. Swisher is an average defensive player – See Dewan or UZR stats, abd an above average offensive player – OPS+ 125.
Gardbera is a better han average CFer. They both play at leas a good CF (Gardner is one of he leagues best) and offensively hey are almos league average players at a preimum defensive position.
If the Yankees need to make any trades it is for a young OF, maybe a Seth Smih to plug into LF.

ANY thought of trading Montero for ANYONE short of The Freak is ridiculous. While no prospect is a guarantee, JM is about as close to the real deal when it comes to hitting as it comes. And for the millionth time, HIS D ISN’T ALL THAT BAD. He can hold his own and he has a very strong arm.
But he can hit for a TON of power, he hits for HIGH AVERAGE, he doesn’t strike out much, he walks……and these numbers come from playing with guys 2 years or more OLDER than him.
He is the BEST hitter with the MOST potential in the minors. PERIOD.
Trade him and there is a good chance you trade a future hall of famer……yep, I’m saying it……….for a pitcher who’s seen his best and if he hasn’t he will be soon…..for someone who can carry your team for a decade.
