Watch: Butch Wynegar on 1240 AM WGBB

By Mike Silva ~ November 18th, 2009. Filed under: Yankees Alumni, Yanks Minors.

Butch Wynegar was runner up to the late Mark “The Bird” Fidrych for Rookie of the Year in 1976. Later on he would catch Dave Righetti’s no hitter as well as Phil Niekro’s 300th win and 3,000 strikeout. Today he helps mentor the top Yankees prospects as the hitting coach of the Scranton Wilkes Barre Yankees.

Butch joined me on Sunday during NYBD on WGBB. Hear him talk about playing outdoors in Minnesota, playing behind Thurman Munson and Carlton Fisk in the All Star Game, the aforementioned no hitter, and catching the knuckle ball. We also chatted about the development of Yankees prospects such as Austin Jackson, Kevin Russo, Juan Miranda, and Ramiro Pena. You can download the entire show here, but below is a video courtesy of 1240 AM WGBB of the interview with Butch. Enjoy!
