Mets Looking at Granderson?

By Mike Silva ~ November 15th, 2009. Filed under: Rumor Mill.

Matt Pignataro of Seven Train to Shea has been doing some great work out west as he spent the summer working for the Spokane Indians. During that time he contacted many baseball people who have helped him report some interesting information.

Yesterday he wrote the Mets may have interest in Curtis Granderson along with the Cubs, Angels, White Sox, Red Sox, Yankees, and Orioles. According to Pignataro there is an interesting rumor floating around that the Mets “could deal OF Fernando Martinez for Granderson. Also, SS Ruben Tejada could also be in the deal as well with Martinez, as the Tigers want a future middle infielder, since Placido Polanco is a free agent. Brad Holt’s name could be thrown in as well into the conversations.” Earlier this week our very own Joe Demayo reported the team’s unhappiness with Holt’s decision to not participate in the Mets instructional league.

I rather save that type of package for Carl Crawford who, in my opinion, is a better player. Granderson strikes out too much and offensively is not much more than a league average player. I believe his outstanding personality and charity work leads to the media overrating the young outfielder. He actually reminds me of another version of Mike Cameron- a player that I am not a huge fan.

We will be talking all the hot stove rumblings tonight as Howard Megdal of SNY joins me for an hour long podcast at 7pm. You can listen live here.
