Jays Willing to Trade Halladay In Division

You just know that Roy Halladay and the Yankees will be a storyline this offseason. Many, including me, have speculated that Toronto would be averse to dealing Doc in the AL East. Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald debunks that theory by quoting Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos as saying that it “won’t be a stumbling block.”
Before you celebrate I will caution that Anthopoulos said “if the return is acceptable.” That is always the million dollar question when the Yankees try to acquire players. This summer teams tried to hold up the Yankees for pitchers like Jarrod Washburn. What is considered “acceptable” by Toronto? Halladay could very easily swing the balance of power in the American League from New York to Boston so, if one gets involved, you have to think the other would seriously join.
The one team which should take this as bad news are the Mets. If Boston and the Yankees don’t repeat their “2007 tease of Santana” there is no way they can compete monetarily and with prospects against the big boys.

“If Boston and the Yankees don’t repeat their “2007 tease of Santana” there is no way they can compete monetarily and with prospects against the big boys.”
Since the Mets have the second highest payroll, after the Yankees, wouldn’t the Mets and Yankees be the “big boys”? Why would you say they can’t compete with Boston when they spend less than the Mets?
Budgetary considerations are another matter–and something that you or I cannot possibly know about. Boston’s budgetary considerations are not public either.
BTW, the word shoud be “averse” not “adverse” the way you used it.
You’re welcome.
