Yanks Like Internal Rotation Options

It sounds like the Yankees are very comfortable with filling out their rotation internally. First it appears they are going to bring back Sergio Mitre and Chad Gaudin. There is also speculation that Chien Ming Wang would take a lesser deal to stay in New York because of the marketing opportunities the Yankees afford him back home in Taiwan.

The best news, especially to the pro development fans, is that Alfredo Aceves, Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlain, and Ian Kennedy will be asked to come to spring training ready to compete for starting jobs. The one name not mentioned, but certainly should be in the mix, is Zach McAllister.  He not only had an outstanding year in AA Trenton, but held his own pitching for AAA Scranton in the International League playoffs.

I still think the Yankees will take a long look at both John Lackey and Roy Halladay. Lackey would be such a perfect fit in the rotation in between Sabathia and Burnett. Obviously, any signing would have an impact on the development of Hughes and Chamberlain. I still think it would be very un-Yankee to give the four and five spot to kids. I wouldn’t expect the Yankees to get away with just three starters again and that is assuming that Pettitte is just as productive in 2010. The volume of young arms will breed competition and only make these kids that much better, but do the Yankees have the stomach for the growing pains? Something tells me they are simply putting this out there to play coy with the marketplace.
