MLBTR has Mets Signing Holliday, Wolf, and Penny

Tim Dierkes of MLBTradeRumors.com posts his “2010 Top 50 Free Agents,” going through the top 50 free agents and predicts where each player will sign.
Dierkes tabs Matt Hollidayas the number one free agent and believes the Mets will sign him to a “six or seven-year deal for more than $100MM.”
The Mets definitely need a signing like Holliday to show us fans that they are committed to winning just like back in 2005, when the Mets signed Carlos Beltran. In the end, I think the Mets will probably over pay to get him to play in New York.
Dierkes ranks Randy Wolf as the number five free agent and believes Wolf will sign with the Mets. According to Dierkes, “Wolf is primed to get a three-year deal worth more than $30MM.”
If the Mets sign Wolf this off season it will almost be a make-up signing for last years signing of Oliver Perez. I wouldn’t mind the Mets signing Wolf as he is a very suitable starter in any rotation.
Finally, Dierkes has Brad Penny as the number 25 free agent and thinks Penny could wind up signing with the Mets.
Penny is kind of interesting in my opinion. I believe he is one of those guys who can turn it on only when he feels like it, and when he’s on he’s on. Just look at this past season. Penny pitched awful for the Red Sox, but then once he joined the Giants, he just starting pitching lights out going 7+ innings a start.
Dierkes also writes that the Mets could also sign a catcher such as Bengie Molina, who could sign with the Nationals.

I’m sure Matty H would love hitting in Citi with that deep right center fence

LOL. Thats why they are probably going to have to overpay for him to come to the Mets.

The Mets certainly need to make an impact move like bringing in a bat of Holliday’s caliber. However, I’m finding it very hard to believe that Hollliday would so easily walk away from St. Louis. He’s hitting behind the perfect player in Albert Pujols, its a great franchise, and he’ll benefit from pitching around Pujols. I love him coming to the Mets but I can’t see the Cards letting him walk easily. They gave up Brett Wallace, who in my opinion, is the next wave of premier Third Basemen of the future. Interesting to see how this tranpires and hopefully Holliday wants to play on the big stage.

Chris, I think if you got offered an excessive amount of money you would go to whatever team offered it. I know I would.

This is kind of a weird statement:
“The Mets definitely need a signing like Holliday to show us fans that they are committed to winning just like back in 2005, when the Mets signed Carlos Beltran. In the end, I think the Mets will probably over pay to get him to play in New York”
The Mets haven’t won anything since 2005 with Beltran.
The Mets need to move home plate about 10 feet closer to the outfield. It’s a simple and cost-effective way to make the ball-park more friendly to the Met’s line-up.

I don’t really get how that was a weird statement, when a signing like Holliday would boost the fan moral just like it with Beltran. When you lose 92 games and haven’t made the playoffs in three years, I think you want to show your fans you want to win.
