Mets to Buy Out JJ Putz

Bart Hubbuch of the NY Post is reporting the Mets will buy out JJ Putz for $1 million rather than pick up his option. Earlier today it was reported that Putz would be owed over $9 million dollars on that option. Health concerns were the main issue behind the decision.

Many forget that Putz was shut down after he attempted to come back from the bone spurs because of a slightly torn UCL in his right elbow.

Not sure what the market for Putz will be, but if he wants an invite and an incentive laden deal perhaps the Mets could bring him back. It sounds like they are ready to move on and admit the JJ Putz/K-Rod “double closer” experiment failed miserable.

Update 4:45 PM – Bart Hubbuch quotes Putz agent Craig Landis who “wouldn’t rule out a return to the Mets on an incentive laden deal.”
