If You Don’t Want Hamels We’ll Take Him

You probably heard about the alleged Cole Hamels/ Brett Myers tussle after Game 5 of the World Series. Apparently the city of Philadelphia feels the same way as Hamels. Just a year after winning the World Series MVP the 25 year old lefty is under fire. Sure, his comments about wanting the season to be over were probably in bad taste. I also agree that this magazine ad is somewhat odd and I have never watched Survivor so I am not sure how his wife is actually a celebrity for being on reality TV. I guess stripping for peanut butter is what we have come to as a society. With that said he still is a pitcher with a career ERA+ of 122. How quickly a city that has known more losing than anyone else runs to throw one of their sports legends to the curb.
John Gonzalez of the Philadelphia Inquirer thinks that Hamels “could use a fresh start”. Hey, if you guys are willing to deal a 25 year old left hander coming off a down year both New York teams should get in line. How about you take Joba Chamberlain for Hamels? I would do that trade in a New York second. If you think Hamels “metrosexuality” bothers you wait till you have to deal with three inning Joba. Think Nuke Laloosh, only the postgame bromides are actually emptier. Better yet, how about Mike Pelfrey of the Mets? Nothing against Big Pelf, but he spent this year suffering from the yips and still hasn’t mastered the actual art of pitching. You could have him and, just like Hamels, is only 25. Those are just two names, but there are a ton others I could throw at you if they don’t suffice.
Give me Heidi from Survivor, an odd luxury condo ad, and Hamels California laid back style any day. Heck, I will even watch reruns of that dopey Survivor show. New Yorkers use to bash another great athlete, Patrick Ewing, all the time. After ten years of Ewing-less Knicks basketball I will take the warts on Ewing’s game every day of the week. Sometimes you just don’t know what you have until it’s gone.
I know Philly has this blue collar credo, but honestly there really isn’t a badge of honor for being low class. Somehow Brett Myers is more Philly than Cole Hamels? That is something that should bring about some self examination?
Heidi and Cole you always have a home here in New York.

Sorry Mike I have to agree with the Phreak Phillies Phans, Hamels needs a big shot of testostorone plus we’ve reached our quota on head cases

He’s 25 and a World Series MVP. He isn’t a rookie anymore. To throw a flat pitch straight down the middle of the plate so A-rod can tee off on it, just because the ump didn’t give him a call he wanted on a previous batter. At what level does a pitcher learn to control his emotions? Send him back to the bull pen because he’s in the majors and there are hundreds of guys who learned not to do that in the minors.

His curve ball is garbage. He can’t even beat the mets. Everyone on the Phillies can beat the mets with the exception of Hamels. He just beat some young, inexperienced teams that could not recognize a changeup last year, Dodgers and Rays. Come to think of it, Mr. Gutless would probably be a perfect met.

No, we won’t. The Phillies deserve him and can keep him.

Beats being the perfect douche.

Mike, you seem to have hard time recognizing that Hamels doesn’t deal well with adversity.
My view of Hamels – just another spoon-fed athlete who knows nothing about real life hardship in the trenches.
The man needs to grow up and learn humility by being receptive to it. Instead, he cowers from it just like the Philly fan trolls who show up on Mets websites just to bash. Let the Phil’s and the nasty fans amongst them, keep this spoiled, arrogant
man-child…. they’re perfect fit mirroring each other. Character comes first in my book, not era+ or any other superficial metric or thought you or the trolls use to excuse the inexcuseable.

“Character comes first in my book, not era+ or any other superficial metric”
Well that’s just dumb. Good thing you’re just a fan and not someone in charge of anything related to baseball.
