Mets To Bring Wally Backman In

By Joe DeMayo ~ October 5th, 2009. Filed under: Joe Demayo, Mets Minors, Mike Silva.

The great Jon Heyman of SI.com reported today on his Twitter account that the Mets will be bringing back 1986 hero Wally Backman back into the organization in a minor league coaching role.

A source confirms this information to NYBD’s Mike Silva. The source goes on to add that the job Backman is likely to receive is the managerial position for the Double-A Binghamton Mets that was vacated when the Mets fired Mako Oliveras. Backman is regarded as a very good baseball mind, and is great with young players. Considering the lack of good news as far as MLB coaching changes, this is a bright spot.
