Long Island Ducks in Atlantic League Playoffs
By Mike Silva ~ September 18th, 2009. Filed under: Independent Baseball.
I erroneously reported earlier this week that the Long Island Ducks lost the last Wild Card spot to Newark. Since both Southern Maryland and Somerset won both halves, there would be a Wild Card spot for the second and third place team. The Ducks are that second team. Congrats to former Mets catcher Gary Carter on bringing the Ducks back to the playoffs his first season on the job.
The 1st half Champion Southern Maryland Blue Crabs will host the Long Island Ducks in games one and two on Thursday, September 24, 2009 and Friday, September 25, 2009 ( both start @ 7:05 pm) then travel to Long Island for game three (and four and five, if necessary) to be played on Saturday, September 26 (7:05 pm), Sunday, September 27, 2009 (3:05 pm) and Tuesday, September 29, 2009 (6:35pm).
I had a chance to catch up with Southern Maryland manager Butch Hobson last season.
