Bernazard Up to His Old Tricks

By Mike Silva ~ July 5th, 2009. Filed under: Mike Silva.

Yesterday, Bill Madden reported on the Mets current woes. Aside from the usual conversation (shallow lineup, barren farm system, Jerry Manuel’s post game quotes) he brings up that meddlesome name again: Tony Bernazard.

It appears that Bernanzard, as he did during the Randolph regime, has a lot to say about Manuel’s performance during organizational meetings. The Wilpon’s eagerly take Bernazard’s  information and react accordingly. Don’t forget that it was Bernazard that cause divisiveness in the clubhouse with some of the Latin players and Willie. There were even reports that he asked Manuel what was wrong with the club just a week before Jerry was named interim manager.

You can’t win if the organization, from top on down, is not on the same page. This hasn’t been the case with the Mets in nearly 3 years. Doesn’t it seem ironic that Manuel’s job performance is suddenly being discussed just a couple of weeks after Manny Acta was reported to be on the way out the door in DC? Talk about a name that would help put this team from the frying pan to the fire.

The Wilpon’s continue to build a dysfunctional culture that only a fortune 500 company can love. You can sell widgets with the type of incompetence displayed in Flushing, but not division titles, much less a championship. I am afraid that the Mets season is slipping away on all fronts and ownership is helping grease the skids.

It’s funny how we always come back to the same culprits when the Mets are in these types of predicaments. The one individual that seems to be teflon is Omar Minaya. That could change in a hurry with another disappointing finish. Remember, Bernazard does have aspirations to run a ballclub of his own. If the relationship between Tony B. and ownership is that cozy I would watch my back. This organization reminds me more of a mob family than a baseball team. Just think, you can watch a reenactment of the Sopranos this summer, while the season slips away.

The Mets better start looking at Minaya and not Manuel… This is a joke
