Kontos to Have TJ Surgery
By Mike Silva ~ June 30th, 2009. Filed under: Yanks Minors.
George Kontos is going for a second opinion on Wednesday, but an MRI on Monday revealed a torn ulnar collateral ligament and it’s likely that Kontos will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery.
Kontos was stuggling this month and his strikeout rate decreased after his promotion to AAA. The lesson from all this is that you just never know what you get with young pitchers. Kontos is the third pitcher to go down this year as Christian Garcia and Ian Kennedy also went down with season ending injuries.
