NYBD MILB Roundup – 06/27/09

By Mike Silva ~ June 28th, 2009. Filed under: Mets Minors, Yanks Minors.

- Jed Weisberger and I did an interesting roundup of some of top Yankees and Mets prospects on Thursday. Jed work for MLB.com and has covered sports for 35 years. He gave great insight and I highly recommend you can download it here.

- I don’t want to beat the Nelson Figueroa watch to death, but he pitched six inning of one run ball again on Friday. His season ERA is 2.61.

- Keep an eye on Eddie Kunz. Control has been his issue this year, but he has walked only 3 batter in his last 17 innings for a 1.04 ERA.

- I was very high on reliever Jose Valdez when I watched him pitch in Trenton earlier this year. He struggled with his control at AAA with 10 walks in 19 innings. He was sent back to Trenton on June 16th.

- Jonathan Albaladejo has pitched to a 1.72 ERA. He has struck out 11 and walked only 1 in 15 innings.

- Ike Davis must like Eastern League pitching. His has an OPS of 1.196 in his first five games.

- Brad Holt lasted only one third of an inning in his return from an injury last night and gave up five runs.

- Mike Antonini is now coming out of the bullpen.

- You probably have heard that Trenton’s Christian Garcia is out for the year, and J.B. Cox was put on the disabled list.

- Jeffrey Kaplan has been hit around (5.06 ERA) since he was promoted to St. Lucie

- In January, John Sickels came on the show and talked about how he liked Arodys Vizcaino. So far, in two starts at Staten Island, he has struck out 14 in 8 innings

- Carmen Angelini continues to struggle this year. After hitting .192 for Charleston he is only hitting .182 in Staten Island.

- Wilmer Flores is hitting .368 over his last 10 games with a homer for Savannah.

- Catcher Juan Centeno is leading the Cyclones in hitting with a .400 average.

- The Cyclones have the best record thus far (6-2) in the NY-Penn League.

- Some were surprised that Manuel Banuelos was named to the Futures Game. You can check out Banuelos stats in case your interested.

Of Nelson Figueroa’s 12 starts, he’s allowed 3 runs or less 11 times. One start was for 2 innings – he was removed because Omar decided to call him up and start at Citi Field three days later. He’s pitched 76 innings. Taking away the one start and 2 innings, Figueroa has started 11 times and pitched 74 innings: that’s 6.2 innings per start! OMAR: WHY IS HE STILL IN BUFFALO?
