ESPN Box Score, Bullpen Thesis, NL East Race
By Mike Silva ~ June 4th, 2009. Filed under: Mike Silva.
- Looks like ESPN updated their box scores to include each batters pitches seen, OBP, and SLG. I remember when they first added batting average and ERA to the box score (probably in the early nineties). I was so excited that I would now know how each player was performing. Back then, you wouldn’t even get an updated batting average after each at-bat. As a matter of fact they only gave you BA, HR, and RBI.
- Another quality day of Girardi bullpen management. Tomko was used as the long reliever and Robertson in a low leverage situation. No need to waste Aceves in this sort of game. Maybe the turning point for the Yankees bullpen was a simple NYBD thesis.
- The acquisition of Nate McLouth accomplishes two things: First, the Braves signal that they are “all in” the 2009 NL East race. Second, it puts an end to Mike Francesa’s “man crush” over the Pirates centerfielder. Are things turning around in Pittsburgh? They had a great outfield a year ago in Bay, McLouth, and Nady. In exchange for those three they received 10 prospects. If they are going to reverse the losing they need to come up aces on these deals. As for the Braves, McLouth is a nice player, but they did the same thing when going after Mark Teixeira in 2007 and they fell short. Think they would like some of those prospects they gave to Texas back? If healthy, the Mets and Phils are vastly superior to yesterday’s designer label in Atlanta.
- Seems like some things never change with Yankees fans and A-Rod.
- The Mets tenth man yesterday: Mother Nature. They will make up yesterday’s game on July 2nd. For those that initially complained, It doesn’t look so bad that the Phils postponed their rainout with the Mets too September.
- We have a great historical look back on tonight’s NYBD radio. Former Yankees pitcher Mike Buddie joins me to talk about the great 1998 Yankees team. He had the best seat in the house and will be sharing stories about that season.
