Swine Flu, Bean Ball, Montero/Holt Promotions

- It’s not bad enough that the Mets lost their third string short stop, Ramon Martinez, but this whole swine flu scare tops the cake. How ironic that it would be an SNY producer creating the final injury knock out punch.
- So Vincente Padilla is mad at Mark Teixeira for three hits he got off of him when Padilla pitched for the Phillies? That is very odd. The Rangers provided more proof that, if they are the best of the rest, just put Yanks vs. Red Sox on your schedule for the ALCS.
- John Maine had the best take on the swine flu. Dave Lennon of Newsday quoted Maine as saying “If I got it, at least I’ll go out with a winning record”. The fact that Maine hasn’t been able to do his between starts routine should be concerning for Friday’s start.
- Was Joe Girardi reading NYBD? You had Tomko and Veras for “white flag brigade” duty. Maybe he is finally establishing some bullpen roles after all.
- Mike Ashmore has confirmed that Jesus Monetero has been promoted to AA Trenton. I said during my minor league notes on Sunday that Montero made sense because he can learn how to catch at the higher level.
- Sign of the times. Brad Holt posted on his facebook page that he is “headed to New York”. Could this be for a possible promotion to the B-Mets? Hopefully he is not hurt.
- Team MVP of the Yankees to date: Mark Teixeira. He has been everything offensively, defensively, and in the clubhouse that recent free agents have not.
- Sean Gibson, great grandson of the infamous Josh Gibson, was interviewed on SNY by Kevin Burkhardt during the game. Sean talked about his foundation and his great grandfather with me on WGBB. Great listen.

Swine flu? Are reporters that stupid? Neither Maine’s nor Beltran’s reported symptoms were that of the flu. They were clearly food poisoning. Nausea and diarrhea are never flu symptoms, and all reports indicated that these were what Maine and Beltran were suffering from.
