NYBD MILB Roundup – Memorial Day Weekend
By Mike Silva ~ May 24th, 2009. Filed under: Mets Minors, Yanks Minors.
- A lot of people forget about another young Yankees catcher – PJ Pilittere. He is hitting .379 over his last 10 games and .281 at Scranton this year. Last year he ranked fifth in the Eastern League in caught stealing rate.
- George Kontos has not given up a run in his last two starts which spans 11 plus innings. On the year he has a 2.45 ERA in Scranton.
- Zack Kroenke is on a scoreless streak as well out of the bullpen. He has given up one earned run since April 16th.
- Javier Valentin is off to a hot start in Buffalo. In his first 27 at-bats he has 3 homers, 7 RBI and an OPS of 1.174.
- If K-Rod is out for an extended time perhaps the Mets will recall Elmer Dessens. He is closing ballgames for the Bisons and has an ERA of 0.79. The Mets version of Brett Tomko. Couldn’t hurt plugging him in to see if he could get outs in the sixth or seventh.
- Mike Antonini is clearly not ready for AAA. His ERA ballooned to over 12 after his poor start on Thursday. Meanwhile, Jonathan Niese got lit up by Columbus on Friday in his first AAA start since being demoted.
- Fernando Martinez had a 2 homer game against Pawtucket on Tuesday.
- Zach McAllister was out dueled by Jeanmar Gomez of Akron on Thursday morning. Oh, by the way, Gomez pitched a perfect game.
- Reese Havens, after a hot start, has been struggling at St. Lucie. His average is down to .227, although he has 7 home runs
- Andrew Brackman pitched 8 innings against Lexington. He gave up only one run, striking out six, to earn win.
- Savannah 2b Josh Satin is hitting .406 over his last 10 games. He is now up to .345 for the season.
- Jeffrey Kaplan is 4-1 with a 1.23 ERA for the Sand Gnats.
