In 100 Days………………

In honor of President Obama’s speech last night commemorating his first 100 days in office, I thought I’d take a look into my crystal ball and see what the Major League Baseball landscape might look like 100 days from now, Saturday, August 8th, 2009.

- The Yankees, on national television, will beat the Red Sox 22-4. Spearheaded by a 24-hit outburst, featuring no less than 3 grand slams in a 14-run 2nd inning. A shell shocked Josh Beckett, who saw his ERA balloon to over five with the 12-run, 1 1/3 inning outing, will proclaim, “I just didn’t have it today”.

- Gary Sheffield will hit his 20th home run of the season, powering the first place Mets to a victory over the San Diego Padres. In that game, Pedro Martinez will win his 8th consecutive decision to run his record to 11-2.

- The Mariners will maintain their five game lead in the American League West by handing the Tampa Bay Rays their 85th loss, 3-2. King Felix will win his 15th game going the distance. Jeff Neimann will see his record fall to 4-11. On a separate note, David Price will pitch his fifth consecutive no-hitter for Durham. Rays management will note that Price may be held in the minors to start the 2010 season as well, due to the fact that he left at least seven pitches “up” in the strike zone during his latest outing.

- Phillies ace Chan Ho Park will outduel Josh Johnson and defeat the Marlins by the score of 13-11. Brad Lidge will pick up his 30th save, and Park will see his ERA plummet to a Citizen’s Bank Park-efficient 7.27. The win will put the Phighting Phils a mere 14 games behind the Mets. The Marlins will already be eliminated from the pennant race.

- Yankees management will introduce a “beat-the-heat” ticket package for the month of August…………. For each day game played, you can get 4 box seats, 4 hot dogs, 4 sodas and 4 ice cream treats for only $44.

Mike Silva will treat himself to a Sausage & Pepper Hero over at Citi Field. Unfortunately, he will get on line in the Food Court during the first inning, and will not return to his seat until the 7th inning stretch.

- The Dodgers will clinch the National League West with their win over the Braves. Their 54 game lead and the August 8th clinching date are both modern day records.

- Oliver Perez will do his best Scott Schoeneweis impression and will become the Mets’ lefty specialist out of the bullpen.

- The Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers will be tied for the American League Central division lead. The Royals will pick up Barry Bonds at the trade deadline and pay him a salary of $1 for the final three months of the season. Bonds will say he came back “just because I love and respect this game, and I wouldn’t do anything to disgrace it”. Bonds will wind up leading the Royals in homers with nine.
