David Wells: Yanks Will Shut Up Philly

By Mike Silva ~ October 31st, 2009. Filed under: 2009 World Series.

David Wells thinks the Yankees will sweep the Phillies on the road and take the series in five. He also doesn’t think highly of the City of Brotherly Love in his latest NY Post column.

You can tell that Wells has no love lost for the city of Philadelphia as he shares the bad experience the TBS crew had in the “City of Brotherly Love” earlier in the postseason. He also shares negative fan interaction when he was a guest during the Eagles/Tampa NFC championship game.

Charlie Manuel pointed out during his press conference that Philadelphia fans are the best he has ever seen. I believe their energy will be a tenth man on the field for the Phils more so than the corporate atmosphere of Yankee Stadium.

Do I agree with Wells and believe the Yanks will win this in five? No. I stand by my Phillies in seven prediction from earlier in the week. It wouldn’t surprise me, as I pointed out earlier, if the Phillies play tight at home- especially tonight. Andy Pettitte is exactly who you want on the mound in this type of situation. He is becoming the kind of big game postseason pitcher like former Yankee El Duque.
