Earlier today I received this email from our good buddy Dr. Mark Filippi, who was listening to Boomer & Carton.

Just put my son on the bus and walked in to hear CC throw another masochistic endocrinologist under one for not waiting to see why Reyes’ thyroid numbers spiked. It took him about 5 minutes to move from quack to optometrist to chiropractor in his tirade but that act is about 15 years old. In like 5 minutes I found some op ed whine about it in the ethers..

I guess what makes it worse is that Boomer is turning into Robin Quivers more and more…

And if this is something real, Carton is just another loudmouth looking for his Cory Lidle byte. If it is HGH-correlated, and this becomes this year’s PED scandal, Carton is a gossip prophet.

For the record I did not listen to this live, but am going off feedback from individuals that have.

First, I have questioned the Mets support of Carton. Last year I wrote how the Mets brand does not need a self centered, narcissistic individual who is using WFAN and the sports world to build his personal radio portfolio. The aggravating thing about Carton is he has the guts to do a good interview, unlike many in the industry today, but always ruins it with childish behavior you see at any local middle school.

As for Boomer, whom I have a great deal of respect, he is playing the “Robin Quivers role” as Doctor Mark states, by sitting back and letting this clown run rampant with his wild thoughts.

First, no one on WFAN is a doctor, least of all Carton. When I did this segment last night I made sure we didn’t speculate about the cause. Dr. Mark came on the show and gave us his expert opinion, but tempered it by not accusing Reyes or the Mets doctors. Fact of the matter is we do not know the cause of Reyes’s issues. I discussed it responsibly, unlike the morning show. Also, Metsblog debunked Carton’s HGH theory with some facts of their own.

I am a Stern fan, although since his move to Sirius I don’t get to listen to him very much. I also read sites, like Deadspin, so I am not trying to play the sanctimonious writer with this post. I just don’t like how I turn on sports radio and I get the ugly spawn of all the ignorant and obnoxious thoughts from fans rolled into one radio host.

Remember, this is the same guy who slandered Eric Lindros, his station was sued, yet Carton is welcome into the world of Mark Chernoff’s ratings inflated WFAN. With some of the other talent on the station why are we subjected to this?

If I were the Mets I would ban any of my players from doing interviews with Carton. They also should reconsider their cozy relationship (looking at you Jeff Wilpon) with that program. It’s bad for your brand, if you need to promote you can do it during Evan and Joe’s show. Second, management should send this guy back to Jersey radio where he belongs. Maybe there is a boardwalk brawl on the “Jersey Shore” that he can opine about. You can do funny morning radio without slandering the topics or attacking the guests (which Carton has done). As for Boomer, well, he can do whatever he wants, remember Carton needs him not the other way around.

WFAN is a station that I turn on to listen to sports talk, not some insecure radio host who is trying to copy one of the most successful radio shows in history.

Memo to WFAN, Chernoff and Carton: Grow Up!
