Vazquez Most Likely to Throw No-No
By Mike Silva ~ January 3rd, 2010. Filed under: Mike Silva, New York Yankees, Sabermetrics, Statistical Analysis.
Back in October John Dewan’s “Stat of the Week” listed the 10 most likely pitchers to throw a no hitter, courtesy of the Bill James 2010 Handbook.
Basically the stat factors in career strikeout and double- play rate. Three pitchers, Jon Lester, Jonathan Sanchez, and Justin Verlander already have thrown a “no-no” during their career. Number 10, however, is newly reacquired Yankees pitcher Javier Vazquez.
Vazquez has not come close to a no hitter in his career, and with his return to the AL, might find it hard to accomplish in 2010.
Just an interesting blurb that I wanted to pass along.
