CC Does Great Job Rewarding the Kids

Great job by CC Sabathia urging Yankees veterans to reward Ramiro Pena and Francisco Cervelli the full playoff share of $365,052.73 if they were added to the postseason roster. They also took care of traveling staff members which is a tradition started by Jason Giambi

I have come to learn this is not always the case in big league clubhouses where veterans often forget where they came from and play politics with the playoff share scenario. Some of the stories I heard about veterans politicking against players receiving the bonus were downright cruel.  Even with all the wealth around the sport there are tons of little guys, both players and employees, who will always have to work for a living. For every CC Sabathia with a multimillion dollar deal there are more Ramiro Pena’s who may never be on a big league roster again.

Mark Teixeira and Brian Bruney also were instrumental in leading the shares meeting. Do you think it’s any coincidence how involved new comers like Teixeira and Sabathia were in the process? This goes to show you how they are not only stars, but great clubhouse individuals. The latter is the aspect that constantly gets overlooked by “linear thinking crowd” and is equally important to the team’s success. You can learn a lot about a player’s character in situations like this.
