Yanks, DeRosa, Bruney, Igawa

More nuggets from Chicago:
- Many thought that Brian Bruney would be non tendered this offseason, but reports indicate otherwise. Bruney is in line for about a 20% raise from his current 1.25 million dollar salary. You can never have enough power arms, although I was told this summer that many believe Bruney’s elbow is a “ticking time bomb” waiting to go off. On a side note I was in Trenton the day Bruney went off on Francisco Rodriguez. That was Subway Series weekend and also the day after the Luis Castillo dropped popup. My recording of Bruney’s actual press conference with reporters after his 1 inning rehab stint is probably the only audio of his comments. If you want to take a listen back you can hear 10 minute audio here.
- Eight teams, including the Yankees, have contacted Mark DeRosa. He is an interesting candidate because of his power and ability to play multiple positions. I would suspect he is looking to be an everyday player where I would believe he would be an all around “super sub” with the world champs. I am not sure there is a match here.
- Scranton’s all time wins leader, Kei Igawa, has garnered interest from Japan. It would be great for the Yankees to divest themselves of the remaining $8 million in salary, but it appears that Igawa doesn’t want to cooperate.
