Philly Bandwagon Growing Strong

Brace yourself Yankees fans because you are about to learn about the city of brotherly love. The worst fans in sports are going to (attempt) to invade your stadium during the World Series. If you choose to make the trek to Citizen’s Bank Park don’t expect the hosts to roll out the red carpet. Personally I would leave the women and children home. More important, it appears the Philly bandwagon might have some new comers.

Jayson Stark over at ESPN talks about the challenges of repeating. During the piece he makes the case for, and against, this Phillies team comparing against the nineties Yankee counterparts. Joe Torre is quoted in the article as he believes the key to the Phils success is their confidence and fearlessness. I have to agree with Joe on that one.

Mark Newman over at MLB.com shares commentary from fans. He cautions that many will root against the Yankees because of their tremendous payroll. He quotes a Reds fan that says he is rooting for the National League and against the Bankee$.

It wouldn’t be a World Series run if a team didn’t have celebrity frontrunners sporting their gear. Actor Ryan Phillippe apparently is a Phillies fan as well. There are many other famous Phillies fans that were pointed out by the St. Petersburg Times last October. Among them are Bill Cosby, Kevin Bacon, Will Smith, and Tina Fey. Political commentator Chris Matthews really does like “hardball” and roots for the Phils as well as Judge Samuel Alito.

Mike Freeman over at CBS Sportsline says the Nation will be rooting for the non-phony, non corporate Phillies to win the title. He is taking the old “good vs. evil” position that we have seen before.

Of course, how can you not love a fan base as classy as Philadelphia? It only makes me want to root for them more.

Don’t forget the poor Mets fans. As Metstradamus writes at his site they don’t have to wait till 2012 because Satan has given us Yanks/Phils.

What are my thoughts on the series? That official prediction won’t come out till tomorrow morning. Beware because I have been correct on the Yankees to date.
