Rumor Mill: McLouth, Street, Washburn, Bedard, Holliday
By Mike Silva ~ June 9th, 2009. Filed under: Rumor Mill.
Frank Russo joined me on the latest NYBD on WGBB. He shared some interesting tidbits from his rumor mill.
- The Yankees have their eyes on bullpen help and Huston Street is a prime target. The Yankees do not believe it will cost them any of their prime prospects to pry Street from Colorado. There is also a chance the Mets take a look at Street now that Putz is out for three months.
- Roy Oswalt doesn’t appear to be a fan of the New York market.
- Jerrod Washburn and Eric Bedard a two names he believes the Mets have an opportunity to obtain. I believe Washburn would come cheaper, is more durable, and, of course, would benefit from a move to the NL.
- No surprise: Adrian Gonzalez is going nowhere.
- The Pirates apparently offered Nate McLouth to the Yankees for a king’s ransom. The Pirates wanted 2 major league ready players and 3 prospects. Names such as Phil Hughes, Melky Cabrera, Mark Melancon, and Austin Jackson were mentioned. The Yankees, of course, said no thanks. This stems back from last year when the Pirates got heat for trading Marte and Nady to the Yanks for a subpar package.
- Matt Holliday will most certainly be traded. The Braves and Cubs are looking into him. Personally, I wouldn’t trade my farm for a guy that is a free agent and hasn’t proven that he can be an elite player outside of Coors.
