Jose Canseco Caught With PEDs, Again

By Mike Silva ~ March 7th, 2012. Filed under: MLB News.

Jose Canseco‘s bizarre story continues to take on new turns. After spending last season as a player-manager in the independent North American Baseball League, Canseco decided to try out this spring for the Quintana Roo Tigers of the Mexican League. Earlier tonight, ESPN Deportes confirmed a report that Canseco  took a banned substance for which he has no prescription and will now not play in the league.

24-hours ago Canseco tweeted that he was leading the Roo in RBI, while hitting .333 with a .500 OBP. He also indicated that he was looking forward to launching home runs in the high altitude of Mexico City. In terms of quality, some say the Mexican League is at a Triple-A level.

Canseco thought his team was so good they could beat the Kansas City Royals

Tonight, Canseco had this to say on Twitter about the ESPN report:

“How can I test positive when I never took any test don’t believe everything the media tells you. The truth always comes out I am not using any illegal substance,” Canseco tweeted. “Don’t be so quick to judge till you here the truth that’s a sure sign of ignorance hatred and jealousy.”

He also mentioned a special that A&E ran about him in 2008:

In that special, it was revealed that Canseco suffers from anabolic steroid induced hypogonadism that led to low sex drive and depression. In that same scene he received a testosterone gel from his physician as a treatment for the low testosterone.

I don’t know how the testosterone helped Canseco with his production, but he broke the rules.

Interestingly enough, he brought up steroids recently and mentioned that he was clean the season in which he hit 46 home runs for the Blue Jays.
