Michael Kay: Mets Will Win Between 55 and 60 Games

By Mike Silva ~ January 12th, 2012. Filed under: New York Mets, Sports Media Commentary.

As I mentioned earlier in the week, Michael Kay has taken to Twitter and started interacting with the fans. To his credit, Kay did a Twitter Q &A and was very engaging. He tweeted so much last night that he reached the site’s limit and was shut down; kudos to Michael Kay.

However, as Kay giveth he immediately taketh away with this latest piece of analysis regarding the Mets.

@danXtanna I mean, what do you want
To me to say? They will win anywhere from 55 to 60 games. I understand the situation but that’s reality,Thu Jan 12 16:31:49 via Twitter for iPad

Yes, Kay believes the Mets will win between 55 and 60 games. I have been on the positive end of the Mets spectrum even post-Jose Reyes, but even the most pessimistic fan that looks at the situation objectively will see there is some offensive talent, decent bullpen, and average starting pitching that could put them in the 77-81 win range.

If I told you they were going to lose David Wright for half the season, Ike Davis for 75% of the season, Jose Reyes for a month, trade Carlos Beltran on July 31st, and not see a single pitch from Johan Santana, would you have seen them finish with 77 wins? That’s exactly what happened in 2011.

You can be down on the ownership situation, however, to put this Mets team amongst the worst in the history of baseball is just ignorant.

Kay is trolling on Twitter; just as he does on his radio show. The aggravating part is he doesn’t need to do that if he just interacts honestly with the fans. Saying the Mets are a 55-win team is just not factual. To be fair, he did credit the improved farm system, but it almost came across as a backhanded compliment after he couched it by saying they would win so few games.

He scored points with me by answering the fans questions, but he clearly has an agenda against the Mets with his latest tweet.

So Michael Kay predicts the Mets will only win 55-60 games. Ask the moron whether he’s willing to put up his house as collateral to back his claim.

Kay is a bore who hates the Mets. He has his job not because of his announcing skill nor his baseball acumen but only because Steinbrenner decided many years ago, towards the tail end of Rizutto and White, to install two homers behind the mike, in Kay and Sterling, guys he knew would never criticize the Yankees nor be fully honest with the fan base. It matters none how many wins Kay is predicting for the Mets, he lacks credibility on anything Mets because no matter the Mets move over the last 20+ years, he finds a way to be critical. And like Francessa, another lazy announcer who loves the Yankees and hates the Mets, Kay loves doing it.
