Anna Benson Still Dissing the Mets

By Mike Silva ~ December 7th, 2011. Filed under: New York Mets, Sports Entertainment.

It’s been a while since Anna Benson was relevant around these parts. Mrs. Kris Benson has been off the radar since her husband’s career was derailed after 2006 due to injury.

We all know that Anna wasn’t too pleased when the Mets traded Kris after the 2005 season. It was mainly because of her, due to comments regarding Carlos Delgado not standing for the National Anthem, as well as the spectacle she made of the team’s holiday party when she was Mrs. Claus. A few months later, Kris beat the Mets as a member of the Baltimore Orioles when they visited Shea Stadium. He pitched 8 innings and hit his only career home run that night. Anna called an impromptu press conference after the game and offered “to send a case of K-Y Jelly to the Mets’ clubhouse.” I was in attendance at Shea that night, which forever will be called, in my opinion, the K-Y Jelly game.

Anna is now back on the map as she is one of the stars of a new VH1 show called “Baseball Wives.” I decided to watch the premiere and write a review for Sports Media Watchdog.

I also wanted to have some fun on Twitter after Anna said “that she was the most exciting thing to happen to the Mets since 1986.” So I sent her some feedback during the show:

@AnnaBenson @TheAnnaBenson the Mets traded you and won a division – calm yourselfThu Dec 01 03:33:19 via Echofon

Mrs. Benson decided to take some time to respond to my overture a day later:

@NYBD then they shit the bed with no pitching and lost their WS dreams because of no pitchers. Stupid moveThu Dec 01 17:42:12 via Twitter for iPhone

I retweeted Anna, which led to many Mets fans giving her a piece of their mind. Give Anna credit, she responds, although I want to keep this site as family-oriented as sports allows. You can follow her on Twitter @theannabenson, but it’s definitely a PG-13 account for the kids.

Actually, the Mets lost Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS 3-1, and it was because they couldn’t get a key hit with the bases loaded. Perhaps I should send her a link to that game’s boxscore?

You can read my review of “Baseball Wives” over at Sports Media Watchdog

Anna never learned to keep either her legs or her mouth closed. Move on.

They traded Wiggington because of a kid named David Wright that was brought up. Also, Jim Duquette was told by ownership he wasn’t going to have much money to spend that offseason. He needed controllable starting pitching to compete. Hence, he brings in Zambrano and Benson. Of course, the Kazmir trade caused hysteria, which forced the Wilpons to hire MInaya, and in turn, Minaya changing the course of the plan and spending for Beltran, Pedro, etc. Duquette never makes those deals if the parameters were different in July. Typical Wilpons, no plan and changing the rules of the game.

Does Mrs. Benson know (at all) that the man who traded her husband is long gone from the Mets and working for the Padres?

Was she the source of the Omar favors latin player myth?
